Clarinda Community Schools Teacher Receives Iowa STEM Teacher Award
The Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council at the Iowa Department of Education is proud to announce Trulla Pullen, STEM teacher for grades PK-6 at Clarinda Community Schools in Clarinda, Iowa, has been named as a recipient of the 2024 Iowa STEM Teacher Award, sponsored by Kemin Industries. The award is given to six educators each year who go above and beyond to inspire student interest in and awareness of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Now in its 10th year, the award is given annually to one full-time, licensed PK-12 teacher from each of the six STEM regions in Iowa. Each honoree is recognized for their dedication to fostering enthusiasm and igniting a passion for STEM that extends beyond the walls of the classroom, effectively equipping students for high-demand careers in the future.
Nominated by two individuals, Pullen was recognized for the curiosity, creativity, and community collaboration that she incorporates into her lessons and activities. She is continually looking for ways to get STEM resources into the students’ hands. She is collaborative with all stakeholders, and recently coordinated the first STEM Career Day for 2nd and 5th grade students last year. She garnered the support of local employees in the STEM fields that led STEM exploration centers for the students.
She has made a significant positive impact on her students' lives, not only academically but also personally, helping them develop critical thinking skills, curiosity, and a lifelong love for STEM subjects.
As a recipient of the 2024 Iowa STEM Teacher Award, Pullen will receive $1,500 to use for her classroom and $1,500 for personal use.
