2019 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT

            Mr. John Herzberg – Clarinda

The Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association is proud to recognize John Herzberg for a 2019 IHSADA Outstanding Service Award.

Jon graduated from the Clarinda High School in 1973 and attended Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda and graduated with an Associate Arts Degree in 1975.

In 1975 Jon began his full-time farming career with his father, Eldon.  Since Eldon’s passing in 2005 Jon has continued to farm 550 acres.  Jon has served as an elected Page County Supervisor since January 1, 2005 and plans to retire from that position December 31, 2020.  Jon serves as Chair on several boards affiliated with the county including:  Page County Landfill Board, Hungry Canyons Board, and Resource Conservation and Development Board.  He serves as Vice-Chair of the Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Board.

Jon began running the chains for the Clarinda High School Varsity football games in the fall of 1977 alongside his good friend, George Crawford.  This past fall marked 41 years of service for Jon with the “chain gang”.  Jon loves football and enjoys watching his hometown team play. Jon always says “there is no better seat than right there on the sidelines.”

In 1984 Jon began serving as a Nodaway Township Trustee and is a member of the Nodaway-Harlan Rural Fire Truck Board.  In the past Jon has assisted the Clarinda Chamber with several activities and currently serves on the Cruzn’ Clarinda Committee and helps with the all-day event.  In 2014 Jon and his wife, Pam received the Clarinda Chamber’s “Spirit of Clarinda Award” for their community commitment and service.

Jon met his wife Pam when they were in the 8th grade at Clarinda.  They have three children all graduates of the CHS.  The three children and their families live in Clarinda and have blessed Jon and Pam with six grandchildren.

CONGRATULATIONS, 2019 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT

John Herzberg
